Rarely does a project provide so many positive benefits for the community—Passive House affordable apartments, homeownership and workspace opportunities for artists, an art gallery, retail, and a new home for Haley House.
2147 Washington Street creates a new 99,000 sf, 6-story mixed-use building that encourages artistry and entrepreneurship for Nubian Square. Located on a former City of Boston-owned parking lot, our team worked closely with the City and the neighborhood to positively contribute to the revitalization of Nubian Square by supporting economic development without displacement.
This model for inclusive infill development creates housing for a wide range of incomes. All marketed primarily for local artists and individuals engaged in the neighborhood’s creative economy, this development provides 62 affordable rental units and 12 for-sale condos for a total of 74 units.Â
2147 Washington Street includes an interior courtyard, rotating art installations, workshop, retail and commercial spaces, a gallery, parking, and a new home for community staple, Haley House Bakery Cafe. The development is Passive House certified, allowing residents to live in comfort while leaving a low energy footprint.
DREAM was both architect and co-developer for the project.Â
