Collaborating with MassDevelopment, DREAM created a feasibility study for the redevelopment of the former Heritage State Park in North Adams, with a focus on revitalizing the historic Freight Yard district for arts, culture and local businesses. We created several phased intervention options for each of the vacant buildings, using a sustainable growth strategy focused on preserving the historic nature of the buildings while adapting them for new uses.
The resulting Strategic Plan envisions local artisans renting existing maker, vendor, and studio spaces for short-term āactivation without intervention,ā while the site grows to include retail, office, restaurant, daycare, cafe, brewery, fitness, and co-working opportunities. DREAM also identified improvements to site connectivity and outdoor programming solutions for greater landscape and plaza activation, including a canopy and events focused on bringing the community together including outdoor classes and farmerās markets.
