What really stood out to me: DREAM Collaborative’s active engagement and specifically their ability to translate multiple viewpoints and opinions into a collaborative final product that we were all proud of.
As part of our house doctor contract with MassDevelopment, DREAM Collaborative created a Vision Document for the Whyte’s Laundry Redevelopment Plan. Working closely with the Economic Development & Industrial Corporation (EDIC) of Lynn and the City of Lynn Planning Department, we looked at possible redevelopment scenarios for a site that had been a laundry operation for decades. Our scope of work included an Existing Conditions & Zoning Analysis, Feasibility and Massing Study, and two in-person community meetings.
The City of Lynn is a diverse Gateway City of over 100,000 residents. After decades of leveraging tools like zoning and tax increment financing to attract development into downtown, the City wanted to focus on attracting development to specific sites. The main site was formerly home to a dry cleaner and laundry facility from the 1930s to the 1990s, and the site has been barred from any development since demolition of the facility in 2000 because of real and perceived contamination on the site.
Having completed assessments and two state-funded Brownfields Cleanup Grants, the City is now poised to study the site to better understand feasible redevelopment opportunities in the area. The proposed reuse of the site is expected to provide numerous benefits to the neighborhood, including much-needed affordable housing and green space opportunities for the Lynn community.
