“We are grateful to the City of Boston, BPDA, and the Mayor’s Office of Housing for this incredible opportunity to bring affordable housing, wealth generation, workforce development and open space to Roxbury’s Nubian Square.”
Related Beal and DREAM Development have been tentatively designated by the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) to develop the Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s (BWSC) existing parking lots in Roxbury into critical affordable and workforce housing, with parks and inviting streets to benefit the wider community. The team’s proposal honors the Roxbury Strategic Master Plan and PLAN: Nubian to ensure that the development will address wealth creation and equity, create a healthy environment that mitigates urban heat island and flooding impacts, provide balanced mobility choices and improve community infrastructure.
Together, Related and DREAM will create a remarkable opportunity for Roxbury through new housing options and 1.17 acres of community-focused open space. A 25,000 square foot Central Green, framed by new housing, along with several smaller open spaces, will support both new residents and the larger neighborhood. Multi-modal streets will accommodate bicycles and provide safer, quieter neighborhood connections. The development team aims to deliver 402 new housing units, with a specific focus on affordable homeownership, including over 79 units for low-income to moderate-income first-time homebuyers. The project will also provide 323 units of affordable and workforce rental units, of which 94 units will be specifically dedicated for seniors.
