555-559 Columbia Road will provide affordable homeownership options and a Boston Public Library branch in the heart of Upham’s Corner. The design of the five-story building respects the historic fabric of the neighborhood by preserving the existing 1918 Dorchester Trust Company facade. This project builds on extensive prior planning efforts culminating in the Upham’s Corner Arts and Innovation District.
33-units of workforce homeownership units at a variety of income levels will be created. Aiming to receive the rigorous Passive House certification beyond the Boston Mayor’s Office of Housing requirement to be a Zero Emissions Building, the residential design provides a healthy, quiet living environment that will reduce utility costs for residents.
